Not All Hardwoods Are Alike
Hardwood flooring is a long-term investment and choosing to install it in your home comes with special considerations. Most importantly, you need to decide which wood species you want to use. Light woods such as ash or maple can help make your room seem more open and airy. Medium woods like hickory and oak add warmth and coziness. If you are going for a more refined or stately look, you’ll probably like a dark wood such as walnut or mahogany. Choosing the right hardwood for your room is solely a matter of your budget and personal preference. The best part is that we can help you choose the best hardwood flooring for your needs!
Love the Floor You've Got? Sand & Refinish for a Brand New Look!
Hardwood is great for it's long-lasting durability, but there's no avoiding the fact that the surface of any hardwood floor experiences the most wear and tear. Over time, scuffs, scratches, dirt, and a faded finish can transform a once beautiful hardwood floor into a fixer-upper. The team at Mr Bid can restore your floor to it's like-new appearance by professionally sanding and refinishing the hardwood. Your floor will look like it did the day it was installed without damaging the wood or lowering the quality. It's the affordable solution for anyone who loves the floor they have, but misses the perfect appearance that used to shine through!
What’s the Difference Between Solid Wood Flooring and Engineered Wood Floors?
Solid wood flooring is just that- solid pieces of wood from top to bottom. The thickness of the wood plank can vary, but it typically ranges from 5/16" to 3/4". The biggest benefit of solid wood flooring is that it can be sanded and refinished many times (as necessary). Solid hardwood floors are ideal for most rooms, except for the basement. If you’d like to finish your basement floor with a hardwood, you’ll need to use an Engineered Wood Floor.
Engineered wood floors are real wood floors, but they are manufactured using multiple layers of wood veneers. The planks maintain their stability because each layer is stacked with the grains running perpendicular to one another. This means they expand and contract less than solid wood in rooms where temperature and humidity fluctuate, such as a basement. Engineered floors are ideal for slab basements because they can be glued to a concrete subfloor.
